Managed Growth
Growth needs to be managed in a forward-looking and fiscally responsible manner. We need to balance both West Melbourne’s and the region’s ability to fund infrastructure needs. We need to promote the City’s economic goals while enhancing overall livability for its residents. A community-supported vision for growth must be created, including a strong financial forecast that puts our future in our control. Through managed growth effort, we can plan for roads, parks, water, wastewater systems, and other important projects. Mayor Hal Rose will demand that growth pays its fair share so that current residents do not experience reduced levels of service or other negative impacts such as increased traffic congestion or increased taxes.
Fiscal Responsibility
Our city must practice responsible financial spending. Mayor Hal Rose will look for additional ways to partner with our neighboring communities to maximize resources without jeopardizing services. It is important for community residents to be informed by our local government as to the allocation of taxpayer’s dollars. Mayor Hal Rose will advocate for reasonable and responsible allocation of local government funds. Mayor Hal Rose will ensure aggressive financial oversight and accountability of city expenditures. Mayor Hal Rose will direct the city to utilize its competent staff instead of hiring highly paid consultants to perform studies on projects. The savings will then be used to complete the actual projects.
Public Safety
Public safety is the most important responsibility of local government. Mayor Hal Rose will support our police to ensure they have the resources necessary to protect our residents. Mayor Hal Rose will support the development of Neighborhood Watch programs and community-based policing programs to better help neighbors look out for one another and work with law enforcement to address criminal activity. Mayor Hal Rose will encourage the West Melbourne Police Department to keep the community informed through on-line updates of criminal activity in the city. West Melbourne has been ranked in the top 50 safest cities in Florida to live in. To be successful in business, you must listen to your customers. In our local government we must also learn to listen to our residents. Mayor Hal Rose’s top issue is a city government that LISTENS to the people. Mayor Hal Rose promises to value the dignity and worth of our citizens, to respect your point of view, and to be available and responsive to residents and businesses of West Melbourne. Mayor Hal Rose will encourage communication between our city and its residents. Mayor Hal Rose pledges to continuously improve access to government information to insure a government that is accountable and responsive.
